Dogs Are a Woman’s Best Friend

I love my dog Snow to the moon and back. He is the light of my whole universe. Snow is an all-white, 4 year old American Eskimo. I met him for the first time when my brother and his girlfriend brought him home from Niagara Falls. I fell in love instantly. He is the most playful, protective, needy, and scared dog you will ever meet. My mom initially had problems adjusting when he first moved in because she is used to having her house in a particular manner. If you are familiar with American Eskimos, then you’ll know that they shed like crazy. This drove my mom mad. She was reluctant to open her heart to him for the first few months. However, within a short period of time, he worked his way into her heart. I never thought I could love and care for an animal as much as I do Snow. When I wake up in the morning to go to work, he runs toward me in such an impatient way because he wants to roam around in the backyard for the few minutes that I have before I have to leave for work. Every morning is the same- he always wags his tail thinking I will take him to work with me, and he always cries when I walk through the door without him. When I return from work, there he is at the front window wagging his tail and barking and all of a sudden he turns into a ball of energy wanting to play. He knows when I’m ready to go for a walk, he knows when its dinner time, he knows when it’s bedtime, but most importantly he knows when there’s something wrong. I have found myself talking to him as if he were a little boy, telling him about my day and asking him questions. He is part of my family now and I can’t imagine my life without him. He brings the most joy to my heart. Snow is incredibly loyal to my family and will do anything to protect us. Dogs want to love and be loved, which is in line with what we all want. Snow teaches me how to love unconditionally every day.


Food for the Soul

Everyone has their favorite comfort food. Whether you just broke up with your boyfriend/girlfriend, when you want to curl up on the sofa on a rainy day and watch a movie, or when you’re stressed out from all the work you have to do, everyone has a particular food that they gravitate to when they find themselves in these situations. For me, if I can eat pasta every single day, 24/7, I would have no problems doing so. I completely and utterly enjoy eating pasta. It brightens my mood, uplifts my spirits and is truly THE BEST comfort food for my soul. While I love pasta in general, I tend to constantly go for the Penne a La Vodka and Bolognese options on a restaurant menu. Pasta puts a smile on my face every time. I think it’s important to nourish your soul with things that make you happy. Of course, I would not eat pasta every single day, 24/7 – it simply wouldn’t be good for my hips. So, I can say that you should enjoy the foods you love in moderation.

I try not to eat an entire plate of JUST pasta alone because if you’re anything like me, you’ll tend to crash afterwards. What I prefer to do instead is eat a side salad prior to my meal to improve digestion and it encourages me to eat less. In addition, a healthy side salad can increase your fiber intake. I personally enjoy adding avocado slices to my salad; not only are they tasty, but they are categorized as good fats which can lower bad cholesterol levels. Adding protein to a pasta dish such as a grilled a chicken breast or vegetables like spinach and beans can add nutritional value to the meal. What is your comfort food that nourishes your soul?

The Meaning of Colors

My parents have recently renovated the house, which means I had the opportunity to pick out new colors for all our walls. Immediately I suggested pink everything. Of course, to my dissatisfaction, my mother rejected the idea. Instead she said, “Cass, think of colors that will make you feel warm, cozy and comfortable. Every color has a meaning, think about what kind of feeling you want to have when you walk into a room”. After this conversation with her, I decided to do some research on the meaning of colors. Through my research, I found out that colors can be interpreted as a form of non-verbal communication. The meaning of colors vary depending on religion, culture, political influences, as well as social circumstances. The most important thing that I discovered was that colors can affect a person’s mood. We tend to surround ourselves with colors that have a positive influence on our mood. Yellow is normally associated with happiness, red with anger or boosted energy, blue is associated with relaxation, green brings a stillness to the room, and orange encourages radiance. Based on this research, my mother and I were able to come up with a combination of colors for the house that we thought would be best to evoke happiness and warmth throughout the household. We decided on warm brown, mocha tones throughout the main floor. The color brown relates to security, comfort, protection and wealth. We chose this color because we wanted to encourage the feeling of safety and coziness throughout the home. In addition to brown, we chose yellow tones for the second floor walls to promote optimism, intellect, and cheerfulness. I think this is an important topic to be aware of when choosing colors for your rooms because each color has a vibration. You don’t want to choose a color that can essentially inhibit a positive attitude. For example, a red or black room can affect a person’s mood in a negative way by promoting depression or anger. We need light energy for nourishing our brain, emotion, physical body and our chakras. Chakras refer to the 7 wheels of energy throughout the body, starting from the base of the spine moving up to the crown of the head. Having balanced and aligned chakras can make you happier, healthier and more in tune with yourself. Thank you for reading!

Thicker, Stronger, Healthier Hair

For years I have listened to my grandmother preach about the wonders of coconut oil and castor oil. First off, let me tell you that coconut oil and castor oil has been used for hundreds of years by people around the world to gain healthier, thicker and stronger hair. Be Your Authentic Self

I wanted to share a little story with you today. It’s about a girl who experienced betrayal, disloyalty, rejection and pain, over and over again from the boys that she’s dated in past relationships. She constantly wondered what she was doing wrong to cause this outcome. It got to the point where her confidence slowly got chipped away and she felt as though she wasn’t good enough. She wanted to please people in order to gain a favorable reaction from them. This girl began putting on an act for people and wasn’t able to be herself in a social crowd. She was longing for someone to love her for who she was on the inside and respect her for who she was. She wanted a relationship where there was a mutual respect for one another. And then one day she met him. She met a guy who paid attention to her, who spent time with her and who wanted nothing more than to be a part of her life. She liked him, maybe even loved him. They got into a relationship, however, red flags started popping up every now and then. He would comment to her on occasion, “I’m so glad I got someone like you, you’re so beautiful”, or “nobody compares to you”. While some people may find these comments to be flattering, to me it sounds more like he considered her as a prize to be won. Time went on in their relationship and she began noticing his eyes wandering off to others, that weren’t welcome in their relationship. His opinion of her began to shift as he started pointing out what she could do to make herself look better. He would look to other girls that caught his eye and would tell her, “why don’t you dress like that?”, or “you should be more like her” in a joking way, but she knew he meant it. This made her feel disgraced and unloved as his girlfriend. However, because all of her long-term relationships had ended in the past, she wanted to make sure she did everything she could to make this one work.

The girl began to dress a little differently, workout a little more and turned a blind eye whenever he wanted to go clubbing with his friends every weekend. Fast forward a few years – their relationship came to an end because of the very same reason you’re thinking of right now. He was unfaithful for most of their relationship. The moral of the story here is that every single person on this earth should believe in who they are on the inside. When you know who you are, and you like who you are, you will love who you are. Whether you are a girl or a boy, you should be confident in yourself, you should know your worth, and no matter what, you should never settle for anything less than you deserve. People should love the person you are on the inside and out, if they do, they would never want to change a thing about you. Love yourself, believe in yourself and respect yourself. Don’t let anyone affect how you feel about yourself but you. Your worth is your own. You are beautiful.  Remember, no one can make you feel inferior or inadequate without your consent. Healing Stones, Healing Crystals, Healing Rocks

A few months ago I was going through, what felt like an emotional roller coaster. I was in-between jobs, my 4 year relationship had just ended, and I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my life. My energy levels were extremely low and I was absolutely demotivated. This was when I decided to visit a local spiritual shop that sold a wide range of products including incense, dream catchers, candles, new age and Wicca products, native art and jewelry. But what caught my attention were the “healing rocks” that they had shimmering on their shelves. They had every natural stone you could think of, from Agate Slices and Black Onyx to Tiger’s Eye and Hematite. I spoke with the specialist for hours that day on several of the rocks’ meanings and purposes. He explained to me that crystal healing is an alternative medical technique in which crystals and other stones can be used to cure illnesses and protect against disease. It is said that natural crystals/stones allow for positive, healing energy to flow into the body while dispelling and preventing negative energy. After explaining my situation to him, he suggested that I invest in black tourmaline, green agate, a moonstone and green hematite. He went on to explain how these particular stones can help me, and I hope with this information, you are able to determine whether or not these types of stones or the many others that exist, are right for you!

Black tourmaline is said to ground spiritual energy and act a shield around the body to prevent negative forces from affecting you. It can be a useful healing stone to clear an individual’s aura, remove blockages in their life and disperse negative energy. If that weren’t enough, it also promotes self-confidence and works to heal the mind. This is an amazing stone to have if you feel that negativity is surrounding you. My mother absolutely swears by it and constantly states that she feels as though she has achieved mental clarity while wearing it. I definitely recommend this one!

Green agates are said to balance s person’s emotional, physical and intellectual cycles. This is a soothing and calming stone which helps bring boundless strength to the wearer. Like black tourmaline, green agates help to promote self-confidence and improve a person’s concentration and mental functionalities. This healing stone works to overcome negativity and inner anger in a person’s life. Green agate was probably the most interesting stone to me because I’m the kind of person that gets frustrated really easily when I feel overwhelmed and when I have too much work on my plate. I do not do my best work under pressure and I was looking for an outlet to help me balance those feelings and move down to a calmer state so I can focus better. Ever since I started wearing green agate on my bracelet, I kid you not, I have felt less stressed and I have been able to look at the bigger picture to be able to work out my thoughts. In the end, I get the job done without experiencing mental blockages.

Moonstones are allegedly strongly connected to the moon, “hence its name”, and has intuitive properties. It’s main purpose and most powerful affect is to encourage calming emotions within a person. The specialist at the local spiritual shop explained that moonstones have traditionally been used to enhance a person’s psychic abilities and develop clairvoyance.

Finally, the final stone that was recommended to me was green hematite. Green hematite is said to promote success and financial stability in a person’s life.  It can be used to bring mental organization, can assist with original though processes, logical thinking, and mathematics.  Green hematite also decreases negativity which can help to balance the body/mind/spirit connection.
